I looked at the ripped MKV file in VLC and it is showing a bitrate of 5-6 mbps with a file size 3-4 gb. Anyway though, for those older movies with pcm mono or 2.0 I just skip Handbrake and keep the full rips on the server and they play just fine through my HTPC that way.įYI, here's the codec info that VLC shows for the pcm track on my MakeMKV copy of 2001: I have been using MakeMkv to rip my blu ray collection. Transcoding tools: tsMuxeR is a free tool that can transcode MKV file produced from DVD or Blu-ray back into Blu-ray disc or M2TS file 1. CCCP is a free codec pack for Windows that will enable MKV playback in Windows Media Player and all other DirectShow-based players. Even that appears to be an issue with my player though since I can play those same files without stuttering using VLC on my laptop. MPlayer is another free player with MKV support. The only issue I do have with pcm tracks is that I like to run my bluray rips through Handbrake (CQ 21) to save space on my server and although I can mux a pcm 5.1 track back into the Handbrake version to keep the full uncompressed audio, I can not do the same with pcm mono or stereo or the else the video will stutter on playback. However, it does not do as good of a job keeping up with the latest copy protection. MakeMKV does not require the use of AnyDVD. I actually tend to use MakeMKV to convert DVDs to MKV files. If you're using MakeMKV and not hearing the pcm track I would think the issue has to be with your player.
